Think Pink (and Orange)

Big Sis: I've seen a lot of pink and orange together lately, and I love it! One of my favorite shirts in high school (a very long time ago) was a striped pink and orange v-neck, and I'm glad to see the vibrant combination is back in style. I created this outfit with my favorite shades of pink and orange, and included two of my favorite mixed patterns, stripes and floral.

Here are some fun, vibrant pink and orange combos I found while browsing around:

Heidi Klum rocks a satiny magenta shirt with hot orange pants.

I like the second from the left best, but they all have potential.

Wouldn't this flirty dress look cute with a cropped denim jacket and magenta flats?

Love these flats. Combine them with jeans and an orange blouse? They're so bright and fun, even a neutral blouse would work.

The tangerine cardigan looks great over a soft coral button-up.

Here are Pantone's 2013 fall fashion inspiration colors for more fun color combo ideas. I'm thinking that Koi and Mykonos Blue would look pretty great together too. Which are your favorites?

Navy and Aqua

Last fall it was all about the contrasting colors, navy and coral, but this season the blue hues, navy and aqua are stealing the scene.

Casual Aqua and Navy

Below are some of my favorite navy and aqua outfits, items, and interior design ideas.

Love these navy wed leg jeans and the way that her dark green bag pulls the outfit together.

The aqua couch with the navy pillows are fantastic. The room pulls off a both modern and retro look.

This is maybe the 6th photo of Zooey Deschanel I've posted on my blog. I can't help it. She's got style.

I love ALL of these pillows and wish that they were sitting on my couch right now.

This cute casual bag is just one of the many adorable bags in the Blucalla Etsy shop.

This understated chevron aqua, navy, and gray phone case would make a great accessory.

Wouldn't this throw pillow from FestiveHomeDecor on Etsy be a pretty addition to the pile of pillows above?

A Fancier Me

If I wasn't a middle class mother of young children who lives in a small farming city, surrounded by slow-paced living and cotton fields, I would probably sometimes dress like this. Even when I'm in commercials I don't dress like this. Sometimes I'll end up in a business blazer and comfortable heels, but most of the time I'm dressed like a Tide commercial mom (a one colored fitted top with jeans, khakis, and flats.) When not in commercials, I most often wear t-shirts or simple peasant tops, jeans, and flip flops. But, if I dined at fancy restaurants, wasn't worried about stains from little hands, and went someplace other than movie theaters and Chipotle on dates, I'd dress like this on occasion. How would you dress if you could?

Lace and Ruffles

A while back I created a post about the cute and versatile ruffled tank. Well, I recently bought an affordable lacy white ruffled tank (only 3.99 at Factory-2-U) and discovered that it works with so many different looks and outfits. It's now pretty much my favorite item of clothing. Here are three looks that I put together. I hope that they give you some fun ideas of your own!

This is the most casual of all three looks. I layered the tank over a simple fitted aqua tee and added a light pink broach and pearls. After all, what goes better with ruffles and lace than pearls?

This next look is what I would wear for a night out. I threw a cropped black jacket over the tank and wore them with skinny jeans and black heels. I also added some black and silver jewelry.

For this last look, I channeled my inner business woman and layered a cropped gray blazer over the tank and added gray slacks and heels.

Just in case you don't live near a Factory-2-U, here are some cute layered tanks available online ($12.99 from ToAdorn (which has LOTS of cute clothes, by the way.)

White Denim

Big Sis: It's 112 degrees today and so my daydreams are taking me to far off places (like December and January) where someone like me can wear coats, jackets, and jeans to their heart's content. I created this outfit on Polyvore with a white denim jacket, just to remind me of better weather to come. Also, though I can't wear one right now, I'm loving the white denim jacket look. This versatile piece can look casual or dressy, and can bring a cute, crisp look to any outfit.

Teal and Coral

Glee's Diana Agron wears her jacket with a flowy, knee length dress and summery sandals. I love the dark blue and crisp white together.

The white denim jacket looks cute and casual with khaki shorts and a ruffled top.

I never would have thought about pairing this jacket with a white shirt, but with the necklace for contrast, it really works!

Maxi dress + this jacket = the perfect look for a casual night out or lunch with friends.

These celebrities rock their white denim jackets. Doesn't Jessica Alba look cute in that scarf? ...sigh. I'll just stand under a fan for a little while, clothes my eyes, and pretend it's fall.

If you live someplace with nice, cool weather, or just want to prepare for fall, this jacket is available at Target for $24.99. You know the fashion advice that says never wear white after Labor Day? Ingnore it! :)

Country Girl

Big Sis: I know that I posted a red, white, and blue themed blog a couple of months ago, but with Independence Day fast approaching, and an over-abundance of cute flag-inspired outfits and items, I had to post another.

This outfit from Polyvore would be perfect to wear to a 4th of July picnic, don't you think?

This effortless, minimalist star t-shirt manages to be patriotic without going overboard. It looks super comfortable too.

These inexpensive Nautical Sea Anchor Earrings would look cute with nearly any summer outfit. I love them... a lot.

Wouldn't these heart sandals from ModCloth  be perfect for a stroll on the beach? You could pull off a simple Independence Day look with just a white tee, jean capris, and these perfect flip flops.
It was love at first sight for me when I spotted this 1970's Red Striped Old School Skater Dress on Etsy. Can't you just imagine this dress with knee high socks and vintage roller skates?

these Tattoo Swallows Earrings are inexpensive, patriotic, and oh-so-adorable.

Zooey Deschanel almost always looks cute, but she looks especially so in this red, white, and gray-blue dress from Mod Cloth. The red cardigan over the top finishes the outfit perfectly.
More patriotic Zooey, but this time with a royal blue dress and bright red belt, which makes for a sophisticated, fun look.

Happy 4th of July everyone! Enjoy the fireworks, food, and fun!

Bright Legs

Big Sis: Now that summertime is here, it's time to put the black leggings away and pull out the bright ones! Available for cheap at Walmart, Target, and almost any other clothing store that you can think of, leggings are a great way to inject some color into any outfit.

I found this great image on Charmed Valerie on how to flatteringly wear leggings. She also has some great advice, which I've posted below the image.

"What to wear with leggings

  • Something that covers your hiney
  • Long shirts that end a little bit below your hips/upper-mid thigh
  • Over-sized sweaters
  • Tunics
  • Mini-skirts/skirts
  • Dresses
  • If you really want to look sophisticated, wear a bootie/ankle boot/boots that leave no room for skin to peak out.
  • An extra layer (like a long cardigan, sweater, or vest) looks even better but the initial visible layer should cover your crotch area
  • Balance clothing proportions by NOT wearing something tight-fitting with your leggings."
Here are two looks that I put together with bright leggings:

I paired a light mini denim dress with bubblegum pink leggings and simple white flats. Thanks to the leggings, I'm able to wear a dress that would be way too short for me otherwise. They also add a fun pop of color!

I bought this dress at Ross last year (without the belt) and it sat on the hanger for quite a while, but when I saw the red leggings and belt sitting in my closet a few days ago, I knew I had to wear them together. I love the way that red, black, and gray look together.

There are lots of great specials for bright leggings on the Internet right now. Here's one of them:

We'd love to see how YOU wear bright leggings. What do you wear them with? How do you accessorize? Tell us in the comments section below or send a photo of yourself to wearitworkit@outlook.com. Happy summer!
